As a professional sustainability consultant, GreenCo is pleased to share an update on our recent work with a client to conduct a comprehensive materiality assessment. Materiality analyses are a crucial step in empowering sustainability insights and understanding an organisation’s most significant environmental, social, and governance (“ESG”) impacts and priorities.

Two-Step Approach

For this project, GreenCo employed a two-pronged approach to gathering robust stakeholder insights:

Online survey

We first designed and deployed an online survey, reaching a wide range of the stakeholders to gather their perspectives on key ESG topics, allowing us to identify the issues deemed most material by a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.

Telephone interview

Building on these survey findings, GreenCo then conducted one-on-one telephone interviews with a selection of the client’s key stakeholders. This enabled us to delve deeper into their ESG concerns, priorities, and suggestions for improvement. The interviews provided invaluable qualitative data to complement the quantitative survey results.

By combining these two methodologies, GreenCo was able to deliver the client a comprehensive materiality assessment that reflects the sustainability issues most critical to their business and stakeholders. This assessment results will now serve as a vital foundation for the client’s ongoing ESG strategy and reporting efforts.
